Colindale stabbing: Young father Raul Nicolaie stabbed to death at flat as police probe two knife killings in space of half an hour

A second murder probe was launched after a woman, aged in her 30s, was fatally stabbed in Brixton

A young father was stabbed to death in north London last night in the first of two knife killings in the space of just half an hour in the capital.

Scotland Yard launched the first murder probe after Raul Nicolaie, said to be in his 20s, was stabbed at his flat in Colindale, north London.

He was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries.

It came just half an hour before a woman, in her 30s, was found suffering knife wounds at a house in Brixton just after 6.30pm yesterday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two killings bring the number in the capital to 59 since the start of the year.

Shocked neighbours in Sudbourne Road, Brixton, described the street as “quiet and neighbourly”.

They said an elderly woman lived with her son and two grandsons in the house where the killing took place.

A suspect in his 20s was seen being led away from the house in handcuffs last night. He was being questioned today on suspicion of murder.

Mr Nicolaie, a Romanian national who is thought to have come to the UK five years ago, is thought to have lived with his girlfriend in Zenith Close, Colindale.

He was found suffering a stab wound to the shoulder before 6pm yesterday.

Friend David Hass said: “I saw the paramedics bring him out of the flats on a stretcher. I couldn’t see his face but then I recognised his arm tattoo.”

Another friend, who did not wish to be named, said Mr Nicolaie adored his son, who was around six months old.

He said: “He was a good guy. He loved playing football and drinking beer.”

Paying tribute to Mr Nicolaie on Facebook, Cassano Alexandru wrote: “What a pain, in the pain of God.”

A woman in her 20s was being questioned today in connection with the killing.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
