The KFC employees appeared to be sneaking bags of chicken in through the back door of the branch in Erith, south east London.

A KFC customer caught staff appearing to smuggle chicken in through the back door of the fast food restaurant as the company’s delivery problem saga continues.

A video shows two men in KFC uniforms lifting crates containing black bags out of the back of a Volvo. The employees then sneak them through the back door of the KFC branch in Erith, south east London.

The footage has been shared as KFC restaurants across the UK have been forced to close their doors amid a nationwide delivery blunder. But Danny Mercer, who captured the video, said he thinks workers at this branch tried to implement a backup plan.

Mr Mercer claims he was told to f*** off by employees when they saw he was filming. He told Kent Live: „I got KFC in Erith shut down because I caught them on videos smuggling raw chicken into the back of the restaurant out of the back of a car in black bags and boxes and unrefrigerated.

„Turns out there has been a delivery problem nationwide for all KFC restaurants. „But I guess the manager of KFC in Erith took it into his own hands to get chicken.”

The Erith branch was still open when the video was taken on Saturday, at which time Mr Mercer said people were „lining up in the drive-thru”. But the popular fast-food chain closed late afternoon with a message to customers pinned on the door. The notice said: „We deliver our chicken fresh into our restaurant but we’ve had a few hiccups with the delivery today. „We wouldn’t want to open without offering our full menu but we’ll be back at the fryers as soon as we can!” It is understood the branch has since reopened. Although it’s not clear exactly what the two men are carrying, in the footage Mr Mercer can be heard saying: „They’re smuggling chickens in their Volvo. „That’s health and safety down the drain isn’t it mate?!”

Mr Mercer claims workers had already brought in „about six black bags from the boot” before he started filming. He said: „The bags were not in boxes like the one on the video, they were bulging and gloopy shaped.

„When the guy in the video looks at me he’s actually telling me to f*** off. They then told me to stop recording about half hour later.

„I will never eat KFC again.” Courier company DHL has apologized for the KFC chicken shortage, just months after it promised to „rewrite the rulebook and set a new benchmark” for delivery. In a statement, DHL – who have recently taken over deliveries to the fast-food chain – apologized for the inconvenience it has caused. But embarrassingly for the firm it had promised to „set a new delivery standard” when it announced it had taken over the chicken shop’s contract in November last year. In a press release at the time the company said: „DHL is also committed to setting a new industry benchmark by delivering outstanding service to all KFC’s restaurants and its consumers.” „We intend to re-write the rule book and create a stock management, distribution,” KFC told Mirror.co.uk it is aware of the video and is investigating.A spokesman added: “We’ve closed several of our restaurants because we won’t compromise the quality of our food, and it also goes without saying that food safety remains our top priority. „When it comes to the safe handling and transport of food, we have strict policies in place, so we’re investigating this urgently and will take any necessary steps.” …more mirror.co.uk
